I know that the weekend is a busy time for flying but during the past combat event I saw something that bothered me and thought I would air it out.  As agreed by the club, the feild is closed to general flying during the combat event. This means from registration at 0800 to the event end there should not be people flying airplanes or helis.

I am not singling anyone person as several people did this both days and it was especially distracting to have helicopters flying during the safety briefing.

I am asking that all persons abide by the no open flying during these events because it is rude and distracting to the people competing and it is a safety issue. The pit area, pilot line and safety lines all move forward onto the paved runway to meet AMA event rules.

I realize we only get 3 to 4 out of town visitors for these events  (so far) show them we are polite and safety minded so that they come back (and hopefully bring freinds)

Hi Craig,

In defense, those individuals willingly and happily gave up their table space for our concessions setup where they had originally setup.  Some of those same pilots came back throughout the day to spectate and support the event.

Personally, I think it goes back to us better informing the "public" about our events.  While we've made great improvements to do so (things like the emails, website, flyers, etc) I think there's room for improvement.  We should revisit the ideas of placing banners and/or larger signs at the field a few weeks prior to any event.   Most of this responsibility falls on us if we're to host events (which I hope we continue to do).

Regards,

Wayne

Not to pick out any one person, The purpose of my post is that as a club when we see people flying (or better yet) setting up to fly. Please remind them this is a "No Fly" day (at least until the event is over) . When one person sneaks a flight in it becomes monkey see monkey do. It is just not the right thing to do when we have a scheduled club event. And though it is not the end of the world. I stand by my comment that it is just rude. mtcw
